Following the success and popularity of Passenger Information System, CNS Limited took a bold approach in introducing a unique system for selling passenger tickets through mobile devices. In this regard, the client, Bangladesh Railway under separate contract encouraged CNS Limited to build infrastructure and a unique system from ground up. The system takes advantage of provisions made for real time online data extraction API in the CSRTS system to be consumed by the Mobile Platform specially built for this purpose. The Platform uses a secured gateway to communicate and poses as an intermediary between CSRTS and the Mobile Operators. The subscribers get an Interactive Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) menu offering various options and convenient input of the desired plan of journey. The data is relayed by the Mobile Operators through the universal API hosted in Gateway to issue tickets and relay back the seat information after deducting the stipulated fare from the customer’s wallet account. The service is very popular with the public and Bangladesh Railway has assigned a 25% seat reservation quota exclusively for the service. The Service can be obtained by pressing *131# from Grameenphone and Banglalink Mobiles.
The service is supported by convenient reconciliation sites with related Mobile Operators along with a dynamic monitoring site for Bangladesh Railway.
